Hello. Just an update ref this post. Have traveled down the coast metal detecting from Gettysburg, Myrtle Beach, Folly Beach, Edisto  Beach, various beaches around Beaufort SC. now am staying until the end of Feb on Hunting Beach.

There are enough campers with metal detectors in here to start a detector convention I believe.

Lot of beach. We have had some stormy weather, and last night was below the 20 degree mark. Nippy in the tent, cat crawled under the sleeping bag for the first time in a while.

Almost got sniuped by a Firestone Tire repair for a what is the noise inside the left tire job.

They almost bilked me for $600.00, saying I needed new front shoes, and rotors. I told them I didn't have 500 never mind 6, and went to a auto wize and bought a set of shoes to put on myself.

I know they didn't look at my shoes cause it took 2 days of soaking WD 40 into the hub just to get the tire OFF. Rotors look like a slick DVD disk, not a scratch in them. And the only thing I need is a bolt that holds the saddle on that holds the shoes in.

No one has just the bold, so I got to find a junk yard someplace in Beaufort or nearbouts.

Plan to hit the beach after looking at Savanna, and maybe if it doesn't get to hot, St. Augistine.

Then

Beginning someplace in  March, I am going to start  heading for the West side of Upper GA.to those gold mines, and SC, NC. etc.  Still need to figure where the GPAA sights are so I can stay free.

IT is so frustrating trying to figure out that book!!

It would still be nice to know of some private brooks to hit, along the way. At the rate they want money for camp grounds I need to hit a mother load to pay the rent to sleep in my tent.

I remember when it was 6 bucks to stay in a campground. IN a Tent. It was ten if you had a RV.

I just want to get to doing some prospecting before everywhere is closed and you have to skulk behind a bush in desguise with cameo and a bush costume to go prospecting.

Still looking for hints, advice, where to go, and how to get there.

And happily team up with anyone willing to share some brook with me. and my son.

Happy trails to all.

Vickie
Thanks to all the southern gentlemen who I hope to meet!!

  • Hi Vickie

I live here in Orlando, Fl.  Not much gold here unless you treasure hunt the ocean beaches after a real good storm.  There are those who are real good at it and do well.  I'm not one of them.  I do most of my prospecting in Northern Georgia in the Dahlonega area.  Georgia is known for its golds purity.  About 95%.  Land access is the problem unless you belong to a club.  LDMA has the Loud mine and there are a couple GPAA claims in the Buchannon area just west of Atalnta about 20 miles.  There are a couple of other clubs one being WEGM (Week End Gold Miners).  They are a private non profit group with many good properties that you can camp on as a member or go with some one who is a member as a guest.  There are many pay to dig sites, but I feel they mine your pocket more than anything else.  I have family in the Kennebunk area.  My sites are set on Idaho and I will be traveling there this summer.  I will make several stops in other gold bearing states as I head that way.  My "Big" pioneer adventure.    Hope to hear from you.  Happy Prospecting.  I know Maine has gold, although the winters put a damper on looking for it.

I think everyone knows about unf... But I am sure there are some who don't. You can pan and sluice in every creek. You can't metal detect. Most national forests you can pan and sluice I believe. Just call the ranger station for that area before going.  I know in the UNF in the 1890's they pulled over 500k ounces of gold out of a few mines, there is gold in pretty much every stream.

  • Hello I live just west of Nashville, Tn and am going to Az this spring and you are welcome to tag along. Marvin

    • Is this an open invitation for all who read...Sandy

  • Hi Vickie,

Your best bet is search the beaches for coins and lost jewlery. The closest place I know is in NC. The Cotton Patch Mine. Not much around the coast. I know because I live her.

  • I got some spots for you to try, but I won't post them on here... accept friend invite.

    • Will you share your spots with me?  Sandy

  • I had to give up hunting for gold out west this winter season due to a knee injury caused by a freak bike accident. Instead, I came to Florida to get the knee fixed at the VA in Gainsville. They did a great job 2 weeks ago and will be heading out to Foley, AL next week to treasure hunt the beaches south of Mobile. Hoping to find gold on the beach there. I did find a nice silver and ruby ring last week here in Florida. I found the beaches on the east coast of Florida to be sanded in and targets scarce because of the 2 to 3 feet of sand over the targets. Give me a call....989-873-7716...jim

  • I'm not sure if it is a long drive from where you're at but next Mon. I will be going down to Dahlonega,Ga.. To cold for me to dredge so I will jus
