ya i was thinking about a bazooka because i'm travel a lot and cant carry around a highbanker, unless i'll get a horse with me :) i'm still planning i will go to cali in end of april, im from italy and will arrange the sluice when im there...
You could get a Bazooka which is a good way to go, or use a Le Trap and don't bother classifying. I like these a lot too! You will still get about an 80 percent recovery rate with the Le Trap without classifying and it is only about $100.00 new.
tai, click on the God Hog ad and look at doc's stacked Highbanker. It is a bit pricey, but requires no classifying and is a dredge combo. If your building your own might get some ideas, top tray automatically classifies bucket or shovel material to 3/8" before the material enters the other 3 trays.
It's usually a good idea to classify your material before running it through your sluice box.
I have a steel basket with handles made from 3/8" expanded metal that fits into a 5 gallon bucket. I fill my 5 gallon bucket about 1/2 full with water, then insert the classifier basket. I put a couple shovels of bank material into the basket and then grab the handles and give it a few spins and dump the oversize. This classifies everything going into the 5 gallon bucket down to 3/8" minus. When I get the 5 gallon bucket full enough with material, I agitate it enough to get it into a slurry and dump it through the sluice. When it's nicely pre-classified, you can run it fast. The key to good results is always running as much good paying material as you can. Get your digging, classifying and sluicing down to where it's an efficient process and the results will follow.
If you want to just shovel into a sluice, one option might be a Stream Banker from Angus McKirk or something similar.
I like my method because it is always better to classify wet material and get it into a slurry so that the heavies are sure to fall out quickly when they hit the sluice.
Good luck
ok thanks everybody for the answer
Also you don't need a permit to just use sluice. I also have a Bazooka Prospector, love it!
Click on the Bazooka link and watch his videos. You can always call him, his name is Todd and will be glad to help you.
You can shovel right into the bazooka gold trap. mine works great and I shoveled right into it.
