Hi yall.

I am going to buy a highbanker/ dredge combo. I have been looking and studying the Keene, Honcoop and Proline.  Which one would better for all around use. Also am looking at the gold cube or micro sluice for cons. Any input would be greatly valued,

  Thanks ,Charlie

  • Another model you might want to look into, is a custom unit built by one of the members here.

Jim Dexter builds some awesome units that are also combination for "shoveling boxes" , While i have not shoveled into one of his models they are around and i have never heard anyone complain about the way they are built! or what they can handle!

    • If you're near the Sacramento area you should try to go and visit Heckler Fabrication if you want a serious piece of equipment that is in line with cost of the mass-produced boxes. Here's the link to the site.  I've been in the business for over 40 years and have yet to see better engineered equipment that is affordable and actually built by miners.

    • Proline for all of the reasons already replied before.
  • I can agree with Brain on that. I have a Proline with the Honda and it works great, although I do worry about the fines and I'd like to do a comparison with the Honkoop. The auto shut off on the Honda is great and has saved us from buying a new engine more than once. When you are into the layer, you don't think about the oil as much as you do the gas. Most people when the engine shuts down and they check the gas, the oil is just an afterthought. Costly mistake. All my equipment uses Honda from drywasher to dredge.
  • I just started carrying the Gold Cube this past week, Mike asked me if i would and hopefully it will be well received!  The Gold cube design makes it one that you have to classify your material down to 1/8 minus which makes it great for beach sands, but makes it rough for using by itself out on the creek, and if you have really fine gold that is flat like coins, you want the 4 stack and not the 3 stack.... if it is chunky gold that you mostly find the 3 stack is said to work well..... you can add a 4th section later if you find the 3 sections is not enough to trap all your fine gold.  It will eat up bucket after bucket of classified material, and capture the gold.

I have both the 3 and 4 stack deluxe currently listed on my website, which includes 12 volt pump, hose and stand, the 4 stack delux ships out weighing 31 pounds.... Gold Cubes and the single stack is there too.  The shopping cart is new to me and we are having problems with the shipping portion so if you email me I can get you the actual figure for now.  Keep watching, I am adding new product this coming week or two, and of course if you view the pdf catalog, though it is older, most products are still available though a price increase may have taken place on some of the bigger items over the past couple years, the new 2011 catalog will be online as soon as it is available!

If you have a small lot of concentrates, I would suggest building your own [yes even though i retail products i still suggest building things!] from a chunk of rain gutter and use the Deep vee matting i carry [see i still get your business or someone does!] and adding a 12 volt bilge pump to it and recirculate your water.  And yes there are commercial available ready made units for sale too.

On the subject of highbankers, shoveling boxes or power sluices, you get what you pay for, and the most common out there is not always the "best" equipment,  I myself prefer a reverse helix spiral such as the goldscrew, the dixie doodlebug was even better but no longer manufactured for like 25 years, and the new fellas on the block make the javalina reverse spiral, and they have a dredge attachment for their bigger unit [no i do not sell any of those at this time but would like to]

  • The Honcoop is unbeatable if you want to capture all of the "fines".  The down side is that the Honcoop is a little pricey.
  • Hibank/Dredge Combos?

I have both a Proline and a Keene.  Both will do the job.  The Keene is "lighter in weight and construction"....the Proline is heavier and built stronger.  But both are adequate.  I have currently placed the Keene up for sale as my use is quite demanding and I am hard on the equipment.  But! The Keene has not broken or gotten damaged and really has done a good job....just that I don't need two, and I aquired the Proline via a fluke situation from a fellow miner who needed immediate cash.

For me the Honda motor/pump is the issue.  The auto oil shutoff is a must.  After going through 2 Briggs in 2 years due to low oil issues while running I prefer the Honda.  Have not even looked into the new Briggs....I been extremely happy with the Honda

Good luck and hope you find the gold....it keeps you digging!
