Karma is a Bi*ch!

Well I pulled a Maurice, unfortunately on a much larger scale.  Yesterday I was crevicing on the most beautiful textbook piece of bedrock you could ever imagine.  It came apart like a jigsaw puzzle and every piece removed was lined with gorgeous flakes.  Needless to say I was really having a great time.  Pry out a chunk of rock and sucking  up the gold with my suction tube.  I just emptied the sucker in the bucket and was going to make one more run before I got out to pan it.  I broke out another piece, sucked up a bunch more flakes, turned around to empty into the bucket and no bucket.  It was gone!!!  I popped out of the water and it was nowhere in sight.  I had it adequitly weighed down (or so I thought) with a couple of big rocks, but somehow it must have caught a freak current and whoosh, gone.

Unfortunately, that bucket held at least a good 1.5 to 2 pennyweight of some very tasty flakes.  I still ended the day with about 1 pennyweight, but it sure would have been nice to have the contents of that lost bucket to add to the vial.  Yes, I am still sick over it.  I really gave a big offering to the gold gods that day.  Man!

  • Hay now wait a minute. You pulled a Maurice, HAHAHA thats good. I am very sorry to hear your loss. I bet you have a good payday in your future to make up for it

  • That's what you get when you get greedy.   I should have stopped when I first thought about panning out the contents intead of going for that "one more crevice".   At least it would have been all nice and cozy in my vial.

  • MAN!!! sad26.gif

Sorry to hear that, but on the bright side you now know that there's some more good gold down stream somewhere!!! happy0045[1].gifthumbsupsmileyanim.gif

    • I lost my snuffer with a couple grams of pickers once, I was digging a good hardpack deposit nice chunky gold I was so focused I didn't even realize until found a couple more pickers and was looking for it. Luckily I had a strong current and large boulders in the current the created a strong eddy and sucked my snuffer in and held it. I still had to wade in 4' of fridges water in the middle of winter but I got it back. Needless to say I learned a valuable lesson that day and I'm now always aware of where my equipment is. I feel for you river digger!
  • That would make me sick to my stomach Riverdigger........never lost anything like that

and wouldn't want to for sure. Have flipped my concentrate pan over into the creek once

or twice.....but not a bucket. That COULD have been a very, very yellow day for you.

  • Sorry to hear that story Digger the currents have taken more than one of my tools down stream but I must say never a bucket of gold !  I have learned not to say throw me that pan they sail every bi as good as a frissbee and go down stream in a heart beat take care friend and call when you get closer !

  • Thats too bad. may be a short chunk of rope from the belt to the bucket? Well let hope its seed gold and it comes back a lot more.

  • Man I am sorry to hear that ..hopefully next time the gold gods will make up for that
