I know it's not Gold.... but

I am thinking to visit the Crater of Diamonds State park in ARK.

There is a 37 acre field for public Diamond hunting.  Only 10.00 for all day i think isn't bad. Can rent any tolls needed.

Was wondering if anyone here has been... is it worth going a couple days?

thanks in advance

Bob

I see a lot of people have found nice diamonds there... just not sure how often.

  • I have been there 2 times now and have always had fun.  Never found a diamond there yet, but my kids did collect some very nice amethyst on our last trip.

    Have fun going.

  • Bob,  My wife and I visited it a few years back the first day we got rained out its volcanic and dirt and turns into slime when wet . Take shoes that tie on as my wife got her foot stuck and we spent fifteen minutes trying to get her shoe back, its hot and humid so take plenty of water . We didn't find any but a guy next to us found a nice brown with yellow streaked on, you crawl along the mounds looking for the diamonds. They plow the area with a road grader or bulldozer it would be timely to be there after they plow it. They have a little training class as what to look for and I suggest you take that in. There's a little luck involved but if you have a classifier maybe 1/4 inch take it they do have wash stations and classifiers available for a price. They also have several water hoses to wash yourselves off after you get done so wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty and muddy which we did. there is a camp ground and motel with a swimming pool if you plan to stay we stayed at a BB which was okay in town, we bought a couple rain coats as it was pouring rain that first day. Talk with people there as there is quite a few people that do it a lot and give good advice. We'd like to go back but its several states away for us, I'd like to say one area is better than another but any place in the shade would be fine with me haha. Its a matter of covering a lot of ground and sharp eyes there small to large as about the size of a dime and are several colors a sunny day would be great and early as it does get busy. Have fun and it you find a nice one they'll want to take a picture of you and you get to name it, you keep what you find

  • sounds like fun let us know if you go and good luck

    • I watched some youtube vids of people there. Probably a lot of luck involved. and, may be best to go after some rain.... washes mud and exposes more rock. We'll see. 10 1/2 hr drive... not sure I'll try it or not.
