  • lol, hotel, we gold prospectors will only stay at motels. hotels are too pricey and have too much to offer.

  • Hello,

I understand you wanting to rough it.  When you say you have everything you will need more than 500 dollars.  Even roughing it.   Where are you coming to up here in Alaska.

    • Years ago 500 dollars would go  a long way.  You really shouldnt go alone.  We are rough miners.  But, if you have read my stuff you already know that.  We like to see people like yourself come up here to Alaska.  Most of the time they get caught up in the other dramas here and never get to do what they set out to do.  If you have and emergency in route you should write our number down and give us a call.  We can help.  It wont cost you your trip.  Also we would love to share our dredging experience with someone like you.

Anyway I have butted into you story enough.   We have lived here for over 13 years and we are dredging miners who know where you are in your wanting to come to Alaska.....Let us know if we can help.

      • You got that right Kent and Sharon,  even roughing it my last trip cost me nearly 2 grand and I normally take only the important items and get the rest of what I need there because of the cost and hastles of shipping, either that or ship to a friend in Anchorage who holds my stuff there until I come up and transport from there...

You seem like very nice people to offer to help him out and share your dredging experience with him, next time I come up I would love to stop and say hi to you guys and maybe check out your operation...   I loved dredging at one time, but can't wear a mask anymore so most of my mining is by highbanker or small dredge combo in shallow water and shallow over burden.   I love AK and always enjoy meeting new people up there.  I hope he takes your advice and gives you guys a call, sounds like the offer of a lifetime to get together with seasoned people like you in the part of AK you are from (Tok, isn't it?)

        Take care,

        Jim.

        • i had 500 spending money after vehicle, and supplies. i took a sluice and some pans and clothes. the vehicle was an old crown vic when i landed off craigslist for 700 bucks. spent the first day gettin all my stuff ready in anchorage. in hindsight i should have gotten a truck and landed in fairbanks. camped in denali first night outta town. the views are wonderful. made it to fairbanks and on to fox and spent second night out about one fourth of the way to circle hot springs. when you say "people like you" i'm no city slicker and take offence. outdoor experience is a must for an adventure of this size and the 500 bucks i mentioned was to cover whoever would accompany me thier food. i ended up going alone.

the gpaa has a claim outside center. it was a camping adventure. i should have had a truck and highbanker as i saw an easy oz and a half a day that way from others there. lot of flakey stuff off bedrock on the hillside. the stream was bucketlined long ago and the gold lies up the banks some now.

  • Hello, how was the trip? Hope you made it.  I was laid up for awhile so wouldn't have been able to make it on that one.

If you make plans on going again let me know..... I'd be glad to go with you and heve everything I need already in order for my next AK trip... Take Care,

    Jim.

  • Wow, it really does sound like a trip of a lifetime! Wish I could head up there with you, but it takes time, money, somebody to mow my yard, etc. Have fun, be safe and take lots of bug spray!
    • yeah i been saving for a year for this. i know if i wait i'll never have the chance to go while i'm young enough to enjoy it much. my wife is understanding enough to let me go and wants me to be safe. just need a companion who can feed thierself mainly, or help a LITTLE in case of emergency, as a 3 mile crawl with a broken bone does not sound like fun alone
