  • I may be a little late but i work in pest control so if you dont mind using something that will kill the squirrels i would have to recommend trying to get your hands on some ground squirrel feeder stations and bait. That will cure your problem and maintain control as long as you follow the instructions and keep fresh bait on hand.

I recommend using a brand called Wilco. We use their products for gopher and ground squirrels commercially and they work great. Availability may vary from state to state when it comes to chemicals so ill give you a link and you can check to see if these are available to use in your state.

    • Thanks Harley. it looks like they wont sell to me in SC but I may call them and at least get one of their traps.

  • Put them on the grill with onions. OH Squirrels that live in the ground, NOT squirrel burger. Sorry. Never mind.

    • LMAO ted  i thought the same thing .......oh well we cant all be perfect

  • I've been dealing with these pests for 20 yrs and the best way to make damm sure you got em is to trap em. They sell these traps at depot or lowes and they are the same ones used for gophers you just don't bury it. stick a few bits of dogfood at the back of the trap and it gets em every time. it looks like a round 4" dia pvc tube with a cable and a spring and when they go in it and push the paddle to get it out of the way to get to the dogfood it releases the wire which grabs them under the armpits and they can't breathe. BUT... you have to tie the trap down with a rope because if you forget to check it a hawk or a crow will scoop up the dead squirrel and your trap and fly off with both. I actually had one of these squirrels as a pet for a few yrs. They are extremely smart and stubborn.

  • We used that Decon stuff that comes in the bait trays  it's green looking pellets.. It worked good!  It also took out a Possum family I didnt know I had also..

Don't let your dog get it like Mine did!!   Vitamin K is the cure..  cost me $500.00 to learn that lesson!

  • Take a 5 gal bucket and add equal parts of turpentine, viniger, gasoline, mineral spirits, etc. Throw in a old bath towel and soak it good. Then throw it into the animal hole and cover it up so the smell doesn't come back to you. The animals will be coming out quickly.

I've done this under my cabin to get rid of a family of Badgers. It works.

  • Hey thanks for all the replys and welcomes, it seems the  poor squirrels must have gotten into the poision i put out for the rats. I enjoy this site very much, just haven't had much time lately to get on it.

  •  Rat poison LOTS

    • I've watched rats eat rat poison and the next day they are still alive. I don't believe rat poison kills rats. I've taken rat poison and put it in peanut butter, then fed it to a squirrel. He was still alive the next day. Do I believe rat poison is B/S..... Yep.
