  • I was out to Lincoln,Mt last summer. The new Lincoln is on the highway but the real Lincoln is about six miles away. I spent a day up there doing some metal detecting around the old tailing piles. Well worth the time. You have to watch what you do up there. It is closed to all prospecting including panning. In the creek there is a rare sub spieces of trout I was very surprised. Also if you plan on doing anything other than pan on BLM land around there it can take over six months to get a permit to high bank or sluice.
    • Did you do any good detecting? Are those tailing piles and the BLM around there unclaimed? I got a new detector and am looking for a few new places to nugget hunt.

      • Hay Steve, I am here in Missoula and have a minelabs 705 metal detector. What kind did you get? I am a member of the Lincoln prospecting club also. I have been working with a guy that was born and raised in Lincoln and is in his mid 70's. He has spent most of his life prospecting the area and has several mines and has kind of pointed me in the right direction as far as places to look. But I am not any good with my MD. Although right now I am thinking Lincoln might be under a few inches of snow. LOL

      • I did rather well detecting. Where the tailings piles are is BLM land there where claim markers in the area across from them. If you go to Lincoln ask where the old cemetery is go past it you will need 4 wheel drive. Then you can't miss the piles.
  • very cool story maurice thanks for sharing
