Full Timer?

Hello, I have been on the GPAA site but it seemed a little slow over there so I searched for more gold forums and found this great site!

I would like to prospect full time living out of my vehicle in Northern California. I am 37, recently single after 13 years, and have no children or debt. I have a few claims around Nevada City but also plan to join other clubs like the Golden Caribous to gain access to more land. I will just be using a sluice and highbanker. I am not looking to get rich. I am looking to work hard and treat it as a full time job. My goal to start is to find $500 in gold per month. Is there anyone else out there who has attempted something like this or who would like to join me in my Livin' The Dream Tour? 8-)

Any thoughts or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You!

Mike

  • Sounds interesting ! I'm willing to tackle the outdoors , I live in Northern Cal , been here about 2 years I have no claims but know a couple of producing areas . I'm 44 with nothing but time , if ya like to hit the creek sometime to talk more about expectations then I'm down with it .
  • I would look at somewhere besides Calf. to make a living off of gold. With the strangle hold that the enviromentalists have on that state, your chances of expanding to an equipment operated operation, is nill. There is still a lot of gold in Calif, but making a living off of 5gal buckets, is going to be tough. Other states have a shorter season, but you still have the option of filing a Plan of Operation, posting a Reclamation Bond, and mining with equipment. Lets say that you are getting $150 a week by moving 4cy per day by hand. at 5 days per week, that figures out to about 200 cy per oz. With equipment, you can run that much a day, or in an hr, depending on what size operation you're running. And hydraulics don't get tired.

    • Alaska would be the place to look if your interested in running a operation of any size.

  • well good luck..been gold prospecting in northern ca for a couple  years as a hobby....and ya cant dredge, cant really high bank...fish and game will even give ya a ticket for sluicing.....blm wont let ya run a motor on there property....and all the other land is private and usually posted...ive prospected almost every creek and gulch around and ya really have to do your research and know your areas.....but its fun and i always find nuggets, found over 1/2 ounce just in one hole, but thats rare....but full time is a different story....it wouldnt be impossible to find 500 a month....but ya really would have to know what your doing.....good luck...

  • I prospect full time, I can average about $500/week on my claim if I really hit it hard, but it barely covers my bills! :)

    • What type of equipment do you use and do you mind telling what state you are in? Thanks!

  • I agree with what pucky said, winter is going to be tough sledding. Really i think you will do a lot better than 500$ a month. If you put in a full days work 5 days a week that should be an easy goal to reach. Make sure you do a lot of sampling keep detailed records of locations and richness of each spot. Dont overlook good fine gold deposits. Make sure someone knows where you are at and set up a check in date. Just in case. Stock up on essentials especially if you plan on starting this winter. I know youll do well, im looking forward to you letting all of know how your progressing. Go get ya some dat yeller metal!!!
  • Best of luck to you Miner Mike. Live the dream for me will ya? I would love to but $500 a month wouldnt quite cover my bills : )  Keep us posted!

  • So Dennis  don't put the rocks in the bucket just the gold and tell me how much that weighs ? Still laughing Here !

  • LOL
