I know this unit works well for crevices. But has anybody used it to go over there pre classified material before they toss it. I look through but sometimes it's compact balls of dirt and rock. I was just thinking it would tell me what my eyes can't see may even speed up process.

Just got back from east fork of the San gabriel mountains. I bought one (falcon md20) worked great for an hour or two. Then it just constant noise. Followed direction on how to fix but didn't help. I will try it again this week if not I will have too send it i bummer. It did find some gold and black sand to help us sluice before it acted up. I bought it to use like your are. If I can get it to work it will be real valuable thanks for your input. Good gold hunting.

Had one for a couple years. Used it to check rocks on hand as stated by others. Never had a problem until I took it out in the filed to check larger areas. Too much noise when not confined to small areas and small stuff. Anything larger or field work detectors work better.

Rechecked it today work great. In the field it did find a couple of pieces if quartz that had some flake in it. Now I need to crush them to see what I got. I bought it to check my classifier pan before I toss. Yes definitely not for large field work.
About a year and a half. I use it to check rock samples that I get from old mine site tails piles. Also to check dirt samples that I dig in areas that have no water in the area. Have found small quartz rock with gold in it when running a five gallon paydirt test through my gold cube and checked the waste material afterwards. Like any prospecting equipment it has it's place if your are willing to take the time and test and experiment.
