cripple river

Just got back from my second trip to the gpaa camp outside Nome. went up with a friend of mine from cincinnati area chapter (our vice president) Len, and I met up with Marty, who I met last year up there. We had a blast this year. The beach gold was much better this year..thanks to the sever storms last fall. We had 2 rich layers starting about a foot and a half down on our beach claim.  A couple of nights we were the only ones out there after midnight. I really won't know how well we did as I shipped most all of the cons back by mail. Got my first box in the mail today...the second one will be soon....I hope. I left town and it was 102 degrees and when we got off the last flight at Nome it was 32 degrees....nice change.I'll get back when I get more cons cleaned out.  If you ever get a chance to get up there, go for it.

  • Been to the Cripple, found some gold, caught some salmon, saw some bears, lots of fun.

What was your final take after working the concentrates?

    All the best,

    Lanny

  • I think we came home with about 40 pounds of cons. I took an extra suitcase up and we were able to split up the cons enough so we booth had some in our bags. For $20 an extra bag on the plane worked for us. I didnt really see any pickers while were we were there. The camp I heard bought some from the staff for the drawing. Now comes the fun of refining this stuff. Good Luck and hope you have lots of GOLD!  Keep us posted.

  • Hello jit, I got back July 1 from cripple river. We had a blast up there also. Our claim didnt have as good a paystreak as some of the beach claims. So we verntured out on our own and found a super pay area across the river on the corner. We still have not run our cons yet, maybe tomorrow. I will run it a couple times in my gold cube to make sure then most likely pan it. I spent about an hour wednesday night and panned a couple table spoons for the winnings cons given out on friday night. I was able to find some pretty good gold still. I think I might set up my homemade miller table and run some of the cons. Anyhow we had a blast at cripple river too. Fun how well the staff takes care of you.

    • finally got all my cons in the mail...all 58 pounds of it.  Starting to get a nice ridge in the bottom of the snuffer bottle. No nuggetts yet,but a lot of the fine stuff in there

  • What type of equipment will you use to clean up your beach cons? Do you have

any preferences for the fine gold recovery? I am researching different pieces of

fine gold recovery equipment and would appreciate your opinions. I seem to have

gathered quite a bit of black sand to rework.......

    • my budddy that went up with me has a gold cube that he swears by. It does real good with the fine glacial gold we get in indiana and ohio. Last year I used the blue bowl on the cons. Each does a good job, but the gold cube does it a lot faster. No matter which you use, I still check the stuff at least twice after that just to make sure I'm not missisng any. I was told to heat up the left over black and purple sand and then toss it in cold water to fracture the very small stuff from the sand then do the mercury thing for the very very small stuff. I just got the second box of the cons today in the mail. No big hurry to get it all done. Last year I saved some for the winter time here to ease the cabin fever blues. When its 15-20 degrees, It was nice to bust out a bag of alaska and just pan out tea-spoons at a time.

  • Cant wait to see your clean up.  I hope to get up there some year, til then I  just have to keep begging the boss.

  • sounds like a good time.. looking forward to seeing how you did
