comparing hooka units

Ok ,hopefully we can have a great discussion on this without straying too far,

without money being much of a factor ( Let's be reasonable), I would like to hear some imput on STAND ALONE compressor units.
All units being gas motor driven.
Keene units
Brownies third lung
Hooka max
Any others that someone has used.
The object would be using for sniping with aprox. 50-100ft hose for two divers to no more than 10-12 ft.
The unit would have to be convertable from bank to floating platform.
Let the discussion begin Clap
Thanks, Rick
PS. I have posted this discussion on other sites, just tying to get the widest input.

  • I have and use the Hookamax system with two 50' downlines and a flotation raft with 700# of weight capability. The air compressor supplies more that adequate air for 2 divers at 20' for about 2 to 2 1/2 hours and I have never been bothered with exhaust fumes in the air supply. You can cover a lot of area with 50' of airline and will more than likely be ready for a break after that time anyway.  I upgraded from the original raft as it wasn't large enough or heavy built enough to hold the equipment I use and the compressor. Now all is good and I am quite happy with the set up. I mainly use the Hookamax on rivers and freshwater lakes in my area and occasionally use it from a dock to explore under the docks.... but I imagine it would work well in the salt water areas as well...as long as the breakers weren't too radical. Hope this is the kind of feedback you were looking for.............

  • I used to do swimming pool work we alway just used an oil less compressor. I have talked to several people with the suction dredges the one big thing everyone complains about is getting exhaust fumes in there air. It is not always just when the wind blows right. I am thinking about building my on rig using an electric compressor. Run an extension cord to it from the generator or get an inverter. The air line can be very 100 ft. easy.
    • When you used the oil less did you have to use a condensation trap or any kind of filter also did you have to use food grade air line I have been told by several sponge divers here in Fla. that is all they use also but they recommend the condensation filter and the food grade hose that contains no kind of oil in it  just very interested in your opinion

      • We had a condensation filter and only use the food grade lines there is a big difference about the taste of the air if you don't.
  • great discussion
