Hello folks, I'm brand new to this sight and new to prospecting as well.  I'm a member of the GPAA and am looking forward to getting out on their claims if the weather ever turns nice here in Montana.  I've been looking for other places to prospect on public lands, and realize the need to make sure I'm not treading on an active claim.  It seems an almost impossible task to completely cover your hind end, and in the age of instant information I don't know why this should be an issue.  I've ran across a program called MineCache which seems to update regularly and cross reference with the BLM site LR2000, and is much more user friendly.  Has anyone used this program or any others out there that may be better?  I really want to play by the rules, but even more, I want to have a lot of fun....so any guidance from the well versed and seasoned prospectors among us would be most appreciated.
