Blue Bowl Tip

Yes, another Blue Bowl tip. Over the years I have watched every video & read every post on all the forums on Blue Bowls but I have never seen this idea or seen it used but it works great. This is for those that run their BB on top of a bucket in a tub & not for those that run the outlet into a clean-up sluice. It will even help those that run a pipe from one bucket into another bucket where the pump is.

Problem: I noticed a lot of the waste material & any fine gold that escaped the BB ending up in the tub being washed right out with the water flowing out of the bucket. So my idea was to get all the over-flow from the BB down into the water. Once any fine, escaped gold is submerged it is just about impossible for it to rise again & out of the bucket plus it keeps all the waste in the bucket & not end up in the tub where the pump is. I wanted everything to stay in the bucket making a clean up & re-run so much easier.

I looked around my kitchen & garage for something that fit the bottom of the BB & found a vitamin bottle that fit just about perfect, a few strips of duct tape & it snugged right up & held firm. (Pic #1)

After I saw how well it worked I had to find something that everyone could use, plus I wanted to get the overflow a couple of more inches down into the bucket. What I came up with is 2” Schedule 80 (black) PVC, 7” long. The I.D. was just a hair bigger than the outlet of the BB so a couple of pieces of duck tape snugged it up just right & makes it removable. I also beveled the edge of the PVC to match the cone so it would fit flush to the bottom. (Pic #2 & 3)

I think everyone using a BB on top of a bucket should use this & it is my belief that once some more people try it, it will be s.o.p. There is no down side I can see. No, water will not rise up the outlet, it seeks it’s own level with the top of the bucket. It’s amazing to watch everything fall out the bottom of the pipe & go straight to the bottom of the bucket.

Feedback welcome.

  • Thanks 'Digger, coming from you is especially flattering. You are right, any piece of flour gold that wants to float because of surface tension gets so beat up by the swirling water entering the pipe its only escape is straight down, the path of least resistance, the low pressure zone as it were.

    Thanks again, Bill

  • It's a perfect solution to overcome the surface tention problem associated with flour gold.  I think you came up with a great idea.  I use something along the same principle for my crack sucker device, pulling the material underwater.  Good job!
