What 12V Batteries are you currently using? Where did you get them and what did they cost?

Right now I'm using a tow truck style jumper battery. Its pretty heavy and there are obviously steep river banks in spots.  It also wont fit into a 5 gal bucket....thats the biggest strike against it. So you can kind of get the idea how large this one is.

What 12V batteries do most folks use on their small portable equipment? Gel? Lithium?

My price range is about $75-100.

I run 500,600 and 750 GPH 12V pumps but might add a 1200 or 1500 GPH or larger to the mix later on. Some of those draw 1-3+ amps.

Would also like to be able to charge from a vehicle as well as a wall outlet.

The reason for 12V is to avoid attracting too much attention to public spots, so the holes are not all worked out between my trips.

  • I use some batteries i got from my neighbor. They are 12v 7.5ah and about 1/4 the size of a car batterie. I can run my 750gph 3 hours constantly , they came out of a battery back up for a home network router
  • I use a Motorcycle Battery in my shop for finishing up. It does a good job and runs a 500 gph for 4 hr or better. What I am going to try in the field is a Solor charger. It's light and it can be charging while I'm pumping. The expence is the only drawback 150$ or so.  Anything to keep moble and it beats hauling a 60# Battery around.

  • You're best bet is a marine deep cell battery. It's still going to be fairly heavy (depending on how many amp per hr.) but you can recharge from your vehicle, or 12v charger at home.

    • Yep this one is big and heavy like that. Even with the handle its not something to crawl up and down banks with. If it fit in a bucket I would just lower it down.

    • how much water do you need a pump fits drill 2or 3 battery last all day

      • Actually the more vids i watch the more ideas im getting. I suppose i could get by working by myself but I have a couple folks i would like to explore some with and thats going to take an all day battery.
