  • Hey Jody...been getting any good rains down that way? Helps to redistribute the gold, kind of like starting over. Working on dredge, slow going but will have something completed around the 24th. Looking to beheading down around then.
    • Yeah we actually have been getting a lot of rain down here recently. It seems like we can't make it through 2 days without any. Some pretty good storms have been hitting too. So the gold getting should keep being good for a little while at least (although a few places seem to replenish with or without the rain). Looking forward to you coming down and meeting you. Maybe we can hit it big while you are here (but, we will find something either way).
      • Working on the Dredge every day...alot of trial and error, mounting motor/pump tomorrow.
Using alot of stainless screws and bolts with lock washers. Sluice box has two foot slick plate then ribbed matting and miners moss covered by #9 expanded metal. Still think I am going to add some riffles toward the end just in case a big one tumbles through(lol). Will have to work the bugs out on the stream...no place to test it here. Can`t wait to get down there and see what it does, should arrive on Friday 25th and stay until Monday, hope we can get together.
        • For sure we will get together. I will take you to some places that will hopefully be better than Doc Rogers (Although that place has a great way of replenishing itself quickly). Unfortunately, we just lost some killer private land today. I was hoping to take you to it, but the guy we were leasing it from just sold the property (it closed today). However. there are quite a few new places I want to check out, as well as some old ones I have heard are really good dredging. Where are you planning to camp at? We were talking about camping at Indian Boundary next weekend. Let me know. Talk to you soon and looking forward to getting together.
  • That would be great!...Sometime around the middle of June will be my next trip. Do you dredge?
I have hunted arrowheads since I was seven(63) now, and still get out now and then for them. Got interested in Gold about 5 years ago, enjoy making, or trying to improve recovery methods. Working on dredge now. I`ll let you know ahead of time when I`ll be there.
    Thanks
    • Yeah I dredge. I have a 3" that I custom built with an 8 1/2 honda. I am planning on upsizing it (to a 4") over winter. I have started working on a 2" for the wife (or a highbanker, not sure yet, she actually likes digging). We just got started last fall, but haven't stopped since.
Looking forward to you coming down and we will definitely go check out a few places.
      • I`m working on a 4" now, hope to have it done soon to bring down and try out. I`m putting it on wheels so I can access the smaller streams and shallow water like at Doc Rogers . I just bent up the sluice box today. That 81/2 honda is more than you need for a 4" but you can run it a little over idle and get the job done . What pump do you have? I`m running a 5.5 honda with a proline HP 300 pump, I also have a Keene P180 on a Briggs. Sounds like we`ve got alot in common on this dredge building, can`t wait to share some ideas.
        • the pump is Precision Machine PH1 3 in by 2 1/2 out it is a old pump but it works well. I can tell you that you do not want to get your hand in front of the nozzle. The sluice was made by James Dexter at Andex(I don't have all the tools here and he does a great job), and with some miners moss and ribbed matting, it doesn't miss much (even the smallest stuff). I am planning on making a new box for the upgrade however. There is a local guy helping me out on it. We are going to build a flared out box, in order to handle more water at less length.
Yeah, I never run the honda at full throttle (helps with fuel economy as well). I run my air off of a T80 or a brownie third lung my buddy has. Unfortunately, I broke my regulator this weekend. I need to try and find a replacement for it.
For your 4 in, when you bring it down, make sure you have a reducer b/c the rangers top us out at 3".
I also look forward to sharing ideas
  • Hi Jody...Your daughters arrowhead is a Big Slough...middle Archaic period...7000 to 4000 yrs before present. It was not used on an arrow but a kind of dart from an Atlatl or spear thrower...nice find, keep looking there may be more.
I get to Doc Rogers field now and then, maybe we could meet sometime.
    • Thanks man. That's great info. Let me know when you will be in the area (I saw you live in PA) and we will meet up. I can show you a few other places around here as well (if you haven't been to them already) or we can just hit up doc rogers. There is always color there for the taking.
