Would I be wasting my time metal detecting around old campsites? It seems to me that these places would be pretty trashy. Then again? maybe not. Has anyone had any luck at old campsites?

We worked a old fargrould one time and came out with 10.00 bucks and a set of keys to a ford never found the ford but we have the keys. LOL

My tent stake collection gets bigger when i'm hunting campsites..LoL!!
That was my thinking as well.
I've thought about doing some detecting around some old campsites. I've read on some can collecting forums that guys would locate the trash holes at the old campsites and dig up old cans and bottles. But I would recommend a detector that would discriminate the junk and use a small coil.
Gordon yep alot of bottle caps around old camp fire spots many a beers had the tops popped and change dropped and Im sure more than one nugget or gold poke got lost pulling keys and such from pockets !
