Yesterday I got out detecting some new foundations. The day was going as it usually does with square nails, ox shoes, spoons and iron when I made an unusual find. I uncovered this little metal dome shaped cover and pulled it out of the ground. At first I thought it was the top to a salt shaker but noticed there was no holes in the top. I rubbed it with my thumb and it is shiny silver. I believe its silver plated and VERY fragile so I'm not gonna try to clean it anymore. Here's the piece I detected...
In the hole I noticed a white rim where i pulled this weird cap from and carefully dug around it. What popped out was a large porcelain pipe bowl....i took a toothbrush to it and heres what I found.
This morning I cleaned it up a bit more and can see where the flowers were pink and green and the leaves have gold veins in them....pretty cool!
Even though it's not an old coin or ring or relic.....to me it's one of my fav cellar hole finds yet. One of these days I'm going to build some display boxes and this will definitely be in one of them :)
Yesterday was a GREAT day!
