this is going to take place in every state thea has anything to do with mining or rec prospecting your state is on the list so think and do something to help in the fight dont wait for someone else to do your part for you
SB 838 passes House, 33-27.
To all my fellow miners, I'm sorry that's it's come to this. We put up a good fight, but it wasn't enough. I thank you for your efforts. The only thing we can do now, is regroup and look to the next phase of the fight, the way our enemies do. There are still Kerby Jackson and the Galice Mining District's injunctions, a possible lawsuit against the state by BLM over this, and we can also work on unseating everyone who voted in favor of this. I say let them pay for their votes with their jobs!
More than that, this doesn't have to be the death of mining in Oregon, not if we don't let it be. Yes, we are losing a big piece of it, but miners are some of the most resilient, inventive people on earth. We CAN overcome this. There are plenty of tools left in our respective arsenals. We have hand-fed sluices, rocker boxes, gravity dredges, gold pans and a million other things, too numerous to list. They may not be as easy or efficient as a suction dredge or a highbanker, but they still work! We can still get that yellow metal we all love so much.
But, stepping away from that for a moment, it's clear to me after this, that the majority in the statehouse no longer represent the people and therefore, I think perhaps the State of Jefferson's time has come. The genesis of it arose from similar complaints many decades ago and it almost came into being in December 1941; the only thing that stopped it was Pearl Harbor, because when WWII broke out, patriotic Americans in the region knew there were more important things to consider. However, the situation today has once again become intolerable, so maybe it's time to think about it again.
