Panning Classes??

Hello everyone. I am new to the site, but my father and I have been prospecting for a couple of years now. I have been thinking of offering a panning class through our local community education service. I have been thinking that with the renewed interest in gold prospecting, that it might be an interesting way to pay for our own prospecting. I would like everyone's thoughts on the idea. I will probably need to buy some concentrates if I do offer the class, as our area may or my not have much gold. I would be interested in finding out who has the lowest price on possible gold bearing concentrates also. Well, that is my first blog post here. I hope that everyone reads this and gives me their input.

Thanks,

Dan

  • I think you have a good idea, the more people we can get interested in prospecting, the better chance there is for the next generation to enjoy the benefits of what we do.

  • dan go for what you want to do  in past years i have gave panning lesons to ove 500 boy scouts and 4 and 5 grade  school kids it has been a thrill to teach them  since cone are costly i use small pieces of lead that was painted gold it worked for what ut was intented for  good luck and i hope you have as much fun doing it as i did and still do

  • This is how I got started. I believe the class was like $25 2 years ago offered via adult education. We showed up at the river at like 10am and the instructor showed his techniques showing us how to pan from 1 pan and catch everything in the 2nd. Then he handed us a small bag of concentrates and 2 tin pans. . Each person found anywhere from 8 to 11 small flakes of gold.  Good class and again that is how I got started

  • good luck with the adventure and check around alot for cons you will find some ....and please let us know how it goes for you

  • I think it is a good idea, you will have to shop around for cons to get the best bang for you buck. You should probably test a few different sellers to see what you get.

  • People are generally interested. There is a guy who does highbank and dredge outings here. They charge a couple hundred bucks for a 4-6 hr day. Not sure if they get any bookings or not. It all begins and ends with the pan though. You would be surprised how many people figure out how to run a sluice and then ask how to handle the concentrates lol.
