Maryland/PA Prospecting

I am new to the hobby, but would love some information regarding gold in Maryland.  I am hoping maybe someone could give me some tips possibly on any areas or rivers that may have some gold history.  I dont have any big equipment other than a classifier, 5 gallon bucket and a pan but it sure would be fun to have some small finds somewhere local.  Also, I would love the opportunity to join anyone else in the area who can maybe show me the ropes and enjoy some company.  I am learning fast and can be helpful to anyone interested.  I am located in the White Marsh area but willing to travel anywhere.  Thank you!!

  • I've read of gold found off of I-83 just inside the Pennsylvania border.  I have tried the Yellow breeches creek in Mechanicsburg but hadn't found any gold but plenty of black sands.  There may be some gold in the creeks around Dillsburg, PA all the way down to the Maryland line toward York, PA.  Good luck!

  • Mark, there is an GPAA Chapter in MD. We meet east of Frederick off Rt 70. Check us out on Facebook GPAA Frederick MD. We have a very active chapter and usually meet the second Friday of the month. We also have a website. http://www.mdgoldprospecting.com/

  • hey mark when you get a chance give me a shout on here I live up in somerset pa and I got a lot of info on Maryland and pa as I live on the border here.  hope to chat soon with you.

  • I would search the internet for gold prospecting clubs in your area. Many members are generally helpful and willing to do a group trip. Also, there is a lot of other info on the internet, and check for online videos of prospecting in your state. This will give you an idea of where to pan and sluice.
