  • here is may youtube link for the bucket sluice

  • O.K., I looked at several sites and now I see what the thing is.

Just another method/design of a clean up sluice. (I've seen drop riffle concentrators before.)

So the bucket is just to catch the tailings for disposal.

Hey if it works for ya, def use it.

  • Google it. All kinds of pics, videos, etc.
  • Tin Pan,

I know drop riffles have been used for quite some time, I just haven't seen this so called "Bucket Sluice".

    Nobody will post pics.  idunno.gif

So, I figure it's either a piece of crap or a real big secret.  89.gif

  • If you have the right amount of water flowing you will see a "V" shape form just below the water inlet and it will be about two inches long. There should be no water gurgling up through the inlet cover.

When you add the material the riffles will all fill up but they are not stagnet. If you look closely you will see that the material in the riffles is tumbling and churning. I call this "popcorn action". It is actually forming a liquid bed more like quicksand.

When I put gold laiden cons from my dredge into the bucket sluice you can watch the brown and black sand wash away revealing the the gold (which is usually very fine around here). Then the gold washes down in to the riffles where it will lay on top for a second or two then sink.

If your cons  are pretty weak, you may not observe the gold with the naked eye but you can be assured that it is happening.

One main advantage of the drop riffle sluice is the super easy cleanout. No mats, riffle bars, moss etc. Its a fiteen second cleanout.

I think the bucket sluice is a great product at two levels, one is for beginners who are just graduating from hand panning tho hand classifying. Two is for serious gold prospecters, as a great tool for the gold lab.

We dredge, then classify out the large stones, then bucket sluice, then blue bowl. The blue bowl step is not really necessary as the clean out from the bucket sluice is just one small pan but we hate to pan when we cant let the machines do it for us and my friend paid for the blue bowl and he likes to watch it work.

  • I also thought that the bucket sluice was malfunctioning when I first tried it out because all of the riffles filled up, but I called the manufacturer and found out that it is supposed to do that.

By the way Steel Pan, drop riffles have been used for hundreds if not thousands of years so I think they might qualify as tried and true.

  • Went to your HP and didn't find a pic of the BS.

    Did you delete it?

  • Sounds to me like the "Bucket Sluice" is a total bust.

I'll stick with the tried and true methods that have been in use for many decades now.

  • my cons r sreend down with window screen .that should be fine enough,1/16th holes the bucket sluice riffles just loadedup with cons .i played around with water flow too so its not the water flow i used. maybe im not doing something else right ,if so im open to suggestions. i can screen my cons down farther with a fine mess tea strainer i have .CECIL  its not worth my time or effort to add a picture of the bucket sluice riffles loaded with cons.i u want theres a pic on my home page .
