His name was Eardman. The gulch that you see below has a million man hours of cobble stacking in it. Mr. Eardman dug that entire canyon by hand and cleaned the channels out to the bedrock, washed all the gravel in a rocker box and stacked all the rocks.
Up that canyon a half mile there are two shafts way up the hill under some trees. Between these shafts and the cabin Mr. Eardman took out many fortunes in nuggets over a 40 year period. He had several safety deposit boxes full of gold in Truth or Consequenses when he died.
There is some dark grey andesite bedrock above the cabin with very deep cracks. I pulled a one ounce nugget and several pennyweight nuggets out of those cracks.
Go into Hillsboro and go to the "General Store". Ask for "Sonny" Hale. Tell him I sent you. Ask him about Mr. Eardman and that cabin on Animas Peak.
This is old cabin that an old miner lived in until the 60's. The cliam owner told us he was found in the old mine nearby. He is burned on the flats near by with about six other unknow graves.
