  • Quote from Nancy S "Hmmmm, I wonder if that is what I have from OR then - mercury covered gold.  That is not very comforting to be honest with you.  I don't really want to come in contact with mercury on a regular basis". I'm not saying it's the healthiest thing, but I have been living with mercury in my teeth for 50+ years. Nothing has fallen off yet.

  • Looks Like it could be Electrum. and there is some Copper on your Gold. Nice Pic

  • yes but you need to be careful when useing any chemicals

  • no cant just wipe it off

can be eather burnt off or retorted or disloved in nitrict acid

  • Thanks Mtau I learned something new today but how do you think it got on there I wouldnt think they woulda used mercury in Ohio.

  • I would guess that it is mercury coated gold. You hardly ever find native silver, because it tarnishes quickly. Take a silver spoon, and bury it in the yard. Dig it up next year, and it'll be blueish green. That's silver chloride.

  • I`m not sure Nancy its either silver or mercury stuck to gold to small to test.. LOL
