Update! I FOUND HER! Thanks to Orrin's help :) I get to meet her and return it this Friday. Every time I dig a cool find I wonder what the story behind it is....all detectorist do. This is one of those finds where I get to know the story and hear it first hand. We just spoke on the phone and she is super excited to get it back. She said she lost it in July of 1972 and when she tried to find it the ring was no where to be found and she knew she'd never see it again. Then I come along nearly 50 years later and find it. This is rapidly becoming one of my fav swingin moments :)
I feel your pain,I talked to the tax guy when they make their rounds about the property behind me he said go to the courthouse and they will tell you I said do you have it in your paperwork he said yes I said can you give it to me he said no you have to go to the courthouse I said is it free he said yes I said is it public knowledge he said yes so why can't you give it to me he said I can't you have to go through the courthouse LOL. Don't give up it will be worth it.
Update on ring return.... Called the school a week ago and they told me they would get back to me in a day or 2. After a week of no reply I called them again. They told me they know who she is and is trying to contact her. I asked them what her name is and they told me thats part of school records and against the law to reveal that info so they wont tell me her name! I asked if they found her in the yearbook and she said yes. I asked if the yearbook is public info and she said yes. So i said if its public info that she can tell me her name. She said no....The yearbook is schools property and considered part of school records so cant reveal her name! I asked if i came up there can i see yearbook and she said yes thats fine! WHAT!!! Its a 3 hour drive on the interstate to get there and really dont wanna do a 6 hour trip for a 5 min look in a yearbook. If I can go see it she should be able to tell me on phone I would think. I asked where do we go from here and she said that the school will try to contact her and if she responds to school that they will give her my contact info and its up to her to call me or not. I still want to return the ring but the school just killed the surprise part of me finding her and telling her! I just wanted her friggin name....
Orrin is on classmates and has sent out a couple emails to folks in her class (thanks man) but so far no replies...
