Good points Rvierdigger. Even the sulphide gold in quarts will stink when you hit it with the torch. I think a specific gravity test would be a great idea.
Sulfuris siltstone? Does it have a smell at all? Fairly light weight?
Almost looks like it could be a form of travertine. Ted
