In about 1810, my ancestors went to the western frontier where they found Indians and wild animals and hardly any roads. They homesteaded and built cabins, cleared timber and managed to survive. The wild west that they moved to was Wood county , OH. It's hard to believe today that it was the western frontier.
Kathleen have you ever considered getting a UV light, they are great for checking for scorpions in dark places and at night, I have two of them for checking for precious stones like rubies and diamonds and many other precious stones along creeks.
