  • I bought a Lobo today and tried it out at Soldier Boy and Double JJ GPAA claims near Prescott Valley, AZ. Well, it works to find metal for sure...no gold today. A bullet, old old nails, a horse shoe, and other scrap iron. Where are the nuggets?!? After 2 hours of detecting, I set up my recirc sluice and did 1 bucket from the bottom of a small creek. Sure enough there is gold in there...meaning there are nuggets upstream and up on the hills right?

  • I have a gold bug ll

  • Just joined this group. I have a Whites GM3. Hoping to learn how to use it one of these days.
  • MJ,

Don't give up on the GBPro just yet. Unless there is something wrong with it, it is an excellent choice as a gold detector. In fact, the only thing that even comes close in a VLF is Fisher's Gold Bug 2. You will find extremely tiny nuggets with the GBPro if you stick with the 5" coil... save the 11" for coins and relics. Here goes: Make sure to use headphones, set the threshold at about 6 or 7 in 'all metal' mode, gain at 40 or 45, hit ground grab while pumping the coil and you should have no trouble picking up that test nugget (doesn't matter what size it is). Now, switch to 'discriminate' mode and crank the gain to 100. You should still be able to hear the test nugget and if it is large enough it will register on the VDI scale. Sweep slow and scrape the coil against the ground. If you are finding birdshot then you will find gold when you get your coil over it. There is a lot more that can be said, so if you have any questions you can email me at advancedminingequipment@gmail.com

  • very nice joe ...about time you got out again  take care buddy

  • Finally got out again after almost two months... managed over two grams with my GoldBug2. The big one is exactly 1 dwt and is coated with a reddish material that is dissolving very slowly in Wink. I will post before and after pics. It was found in a conglomerate wall about 2 inches in. Had to swing the pick quite a few times just to break out the rocks.2960226062?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024

  • I own a ML Eureaka Gold.   Very sensitive on gold with the 6X9 coil.   But for greater depth I use a15" WOT coil, works down to 24".

  • Thanks for the info Lucky Joe,  I did have a GMT, but it didn't have hardly any depth at all, and from what I could tell from experience with the machine,  it is a dedicated gold detector, but mainly for finding tiny shallow gold targets,  down to about 4 to6 inches maximum depth.  Since I wasn't impressed with that detector,  and know that lower frequency VLF detectors are known for greater depth, and don't have the BIG BUCKS to spend on a PI gold detector, I opted for the GMT, which does GREAT for coins,  relics, and junk so far.  It also does well in tracking ground mineralization, for finding better spots to drywash,  similar to the GMT.  I have heard there are some high performance deep seeking aftermarket coils available, for depths beyond 12 inches,  for finding the larger gold targets - just don't know what they are and where to get them.  I think one that I've heard of is called a "Big Foot"???  Before buying one, I'd like to hear from other members who have experience with these coils,  so I'm not wasting hard to come by cash on something that won't do what I need it to.   If and when I come by a LARGE windfall of cash,  I'll get a PI detector, since I've heard they're perfect for greater depth, and aren't affected by ground mineralization at all.  Until then, VLF is the only choice I have, and wish there WAS a VLF machine that does EVERYTHING I need it to.   And last but not least,  the sensitivity and depth of this MXT, as well as ground tracking, is just as good if not better than the Lobo SuperTraq I used to have.  That machine really disappointed me, as I was expecting more from it than what my other Tesoro Diablo II machine provided, and it didn't.   It's interesting how the "AUTO GROUND TRACKING" machines don't have the sensitivity of their earlier manual adjust predecessors.  The White's VSAT had SUPER SENSITIVITY and depth, and wish I still had one.  Thanks again Lucky Joe for your most helpful info, and have a GREAT "GOLDEN" holiday weekend!!!

  • Gerald,

The MXT isn't the best gold machine due to inability to handle highly mineralized ground and still be sensitive to gold. That 4x6 nuggetshooter is going to be your best bet. My dad uses his MXT for gold when there is a lot of rusty iron trash in an area, so it does have its place. But if you want more depth, you almost have to get a dedicated gold machine.

  • I have the first model MXT, before the MXT Pro came out on the market, and along with the stock 8.5 inch round concentric coil that came with it,  bought the smallest 4X6 inch shooter DD coil, and what I believe to be the next size up DD, the 6x9 or 6x10 inch Prism DD.  So, what I'm hoping to receive recommendations on are any larger coils available,  preferably DD or of that technology, for seeking deeper mineral targets, preferably GOLD.  Have a GREAT DAY and Easter Weekend!!!

Desert Prospecting Coil Recommendations

Hello you all!!!!  I've heard about these new SEF EXcelerator Coils that you can get from Kellyco, and am wondering if anyone uses them here in this group?  I have a Whites MXT and am wondering which larger coils work the best out here in Arizona with all of the grounds high mineralization.  I figured it best to ask around about how these coils work out here, before buying one, as they're not cheap and don't have money to waste on mistake purchases.  Your help is MUCH appreciated!!!  Also, I…
