I don't know anything about the Gold Striker, but here is some info from Minelab's website...
"The Minelab Gold Striker detector was released in November 1993 and is no longer in production. The Gold Striker was a gold detector utilising VLF technology"
Also it seems that it operates at 32 kHz, which should be good for gold.
