Okay guys and girls, need some help here. I just found out I have to go to Charlotte tomorrow, to set up 2 booths at NRA convention. If any good places to prospect or metal detect, will stay down thru Monday, if not, will come back to N.E. NC, then drive back Sunday to dismantal booths?? Convince me I should stay. The more info I can get, the better. If there is a need, feel free to call me. 252-312-5759, not too late though. Thanks, Larry

  • As this post get to be more about the Cotton patch, or any other Pay to dig sites, loads of dirt, are like slot machines. No two are the same. They're great for the beginner or a seasoned prospector wanting to get a fix.

I just spent a few days there with the camper, so the wife camps, and helps out a bit. Knowing I had dirt with some gold, I was able to test one of my sluices using carpet and miners moss. It turns out my Plastic LeTrap Sluice was the big winner for finding gold in their new sluice fixtures.

    • Thanks for response, I stopped by yesterday and panned to concentrates, 5 of the 2lb. buckets and brought 2, 5 gal. buckets home with me. I did see some gold in the concentrates, but going to finish it at home.

I was on the way to work and pushed it, by stopping for an hour. I probibly lost some, trying to rush thru them but was a nice break from 4 hours driving. Will let everyone know how we do on the buckets.
  • Larry,

For the money it would cost you to do any prospecting at the Cotton Patch along with the hard work of going thru the material verses the return - I doubt that you would consider it a worthwhile venture. One example - a member of our group went to the Cotton Patch a few weeks ago, paid $200 for a load of material and after going thru the entire load found just over a gram of gold. I have talked with numerous people that have had the same experience.
    • I checked 7 sluicers over the last 2 weeks at Cotton Patch, all of them had 2 grams or better per half load of material. Lots of +8 mesh pickers.
  • Larry,

There are numerous places to do some prospecting in the Charlotte area, tho, unfortunately, I do most of my prospecting in Montgomery County - about an hour's drive east of Charlotte - so am unfamiliar with the area. But I do know that unless you know someone with property in the area it would be a hard task to get onto a good creek. Now, if you were able to come over to my county - but, then, that would be a problem too in that I am leaving tomorrow for a few days in Alabama. Where do you live? Perhaps you could come down some week end and we could show you some good prospecting.
    • Pappy, would love to come for a visit. We are about as far North and East as you can go, without being in VA or the ocean. We are around Elizabeth City. I'm suppose to start working 4 day week soon, let me know when you will be around, will see if I can get away. It was 339 miles to Charlotte, were are you from there?

    • Thanks for the fast responce. Trying to convince my company it would be cheaper to keep me there, then to have me drive back 354 miles each way. Wish me luck. Would it be worth it to take sluice to Cotton Patch? Have you ever tried sluicing there? Have you ever tried sluicing in the National forest? Anyone else have any suggestions????? Thanks again!
