Vlado and Rob's Alaska Adventure

Yes Vlado and I are heading to Alaska with the intention to dredge in one of the gold bearing rivers.

If you were listening on today's show, May 1st, you heard us share that I met Vlado a year ago here on GPS.

Our journey starts this Wednesday May 4th, where we will head into Michigan from Ontario, Canada.  We plan to go through the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and then into Wisconsin.  I have a storage unit in Western Wisconsin, where my sleeping bag is.  We have an idea to use and old whirlpool tub from a highs school, for heating up some water that we can get in after spending hours in the river water.   Then we will continue across through Minnesota and North Dakota.  Now depending on how much money we have  at that time, we might head down to Colorado to do some prospecting before making our way over to Boise, Idaho.  From there we will start the longest part of the trip as we head North back into Canada.  It is over 2000 miles to reach the Alaska border.  I am excited  and eager to get on the road.   So if anyone would like to help us make it, my email address connected to Paypal  is jireh66@hotmail.com.  If you know about Paypal  it is easy to transfer funds to your bank account and I will have my debit card with me.  Thanks for letting us share and we plan to have updates along the way and from Alaska.  Take care all

Rob

  • Good Morning GPS,

Yes Sharon, we are on the road and in Marquette, Michigan  at this moment.

Last week we left Ontario, Canada and came over into Michigan and stayed at my brother's house until Sunday.  I spent two days splitting wood to earn some money and later today I plan to work with someone who needs help putting up a big tent here close to Marquette.  We went swimming yesterday in Lake Superior.  It was Vlado's first time wearing his new wetsuit.  He actually enjoyed searching the shallows for rocks and stones but he didn't have a snorkel so he had to come up for air a lot.  The only thing that was cold on me were my hands so I think I need actual diving gloves.  The water I am guessing was between 39 and 40 something degrees fahrenheit.  It was nippy for sure.  But the water is crystal clear.   We are planning to be in Wisconsin tomorrow and maybe find some work for a couple days before  heading into Minnesota and then North Dakota.  If anyone in Western Wisconsin or Minnesota has 15 or 20 feet of 2 inch hose for dredging, we would be very appreciative if you don't need it anymore so we could take it with us to Colorado where a friend says he has a 1 1/2 inch pump so I can use my 2 inch suction nozzle to dredge in Colorado.  We have been sleeping in Vlado's van and don't tell Vlado but I am ready for a quieter environment in my own tent, where the noise decibels will be greatly reduced, if you know what I mean.  He did though leave the radio on all night to try and drown out the snoring.  It didn't work.  Anyway,  When I get another chance, I will let you know where we are.  Enjoy your day.

    Rob

  • With the fires in Canada you will be limited on location of travel?

  • So are you on the road yet?
