The hypocricy of the EPA

So according to EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy after "accidentally" dumping 3 million gallons of heavy metal-laden sludge into the Animas river, "..the river is restoring itself."

If rivers possess this ability and the EPA knows it, what possible argument does the EPA have to regulate any in-stream mining activities which produce ZERO toxic emission?

  • exactly Ron

  • I also agree that rivers are not "self cleaning" but it appears the EPA is headed by a clueless schill who was appointed by a President with an agenda that gives the rights of our citizenry less importance than government interests.

  • The EPA are very selective in what they want to enforce.   Our dredging is not harmful to the rivers, streams, creeks, whatever.  I believe this is the point being made by Patrick.

  • Never said the EPA was not necessary but they are often arbitrary.

  • rivers are not self cleaning,  abandoned mines fill with water and toxic minerals and acids,  mines must be plugged monitored and maintained virtually forever at taxpayer expense.   Rivers in the east ran orange for years till EPA cleaned them up.   Beware what you wish for,  EPA is a necessary evil.

  • your correct buddy

  • It's a "Do as I say, not as I do" thing. If that had been a privately owned company that did that, they would have all been in jail, and fined hundreds of millions of dollars. But because it is the enviromental god, they can do no wrong.

  • I agree pat  I hope the words they are saying will be remembered at the next dredging hearing
