Metal Detector Help Please.

Hey guys I'm looking at adding a metal detector to my arsenal of tools for gold prospecting. I found one on craigslist add and it's for a Fisher Gold bug. The guy doesn't know how to use it and said, "It has the original manual or watch a youtube video." If anyone could let me know what to look for in parts that might be broken on this thing or how to turn it on at least and make sure it is running properly. He said it takes a 2 9V batteries but that's about it.If you want to see a picture check out craigslist in california. It'd be ventura county and I just typed in metal detector. Let me know what you think guys and any help is appreciated.Thank You

  • congrats on your purchase and good luck .be sure to post some pics of your finds we always enjoy seeing them

  • Hey I ended up purchasing the Gold Bug. I looked up a few videos just so I could test it out but the gentleman selling it helped me by turning it on and trying it out. Turns out he was an avid metal detector with a few machines but just hadn't used that one yet. I'm hoping to test it out soon myself.

  • Even if it's the just the Gold Bug you got a great deal if it works! lol Enjoy it and have fun good luck!

  • Hey thank you for the info guys and he was asking $250 for it but I got him down to $180. I won't be able to check it out until Tuesday so I'll probably watch some videos on how it works and try to make sure I don't end up buying something that doesn't work.
  • Yes Gold Bug and  Gold Bug 2 are great for gold! I have the GB2 and they have a higher freq which you need for gold.  They are a VLF detector, pulse induction detectors work well for gold but in the $2500 on up range. You didn't say how much he was asking. The GB2 has the highest freq for gold in the VLF detectors at 71khz. Depending on how much you are getting it for I would go with it for gold, they will also pick up coins, etc.  The higher the freq the better for gold. Hope this helped ya out buddy.

  • I wish I knew about those I would be glad to help if I did ,,,what kind of price was he asking for it
