How I Got Started

I live in south Arkansas and I started metal detecting two years ago. I've always been interested in the hobby but never had the time. I had an uncle that had several detectors and I would see some of his finds through the years. In Sept. 2012 I was diagnosed with stage 4 squamous cell throat cancer (I am now in remission) after my chemo and radiation treatments I needed a form of physical and mental therapy so I figured metal detecting would be a great way to get exercise and get my mind off of my health, etc. I found my first silver coin a Standing Liberty quarter and later a 1901 Barber dime and I was hooked. I have made some great friends that have been doing this for years and they gave me some good tips and tricks. I have recently got into gold panning but I haven't got to try my sluice box out yet because the cold weather got here before my sluice did, lol. I doubt if I have much luck finding gold in my area but I did find a couple of diamonds while panning this year and Arkansas is known for it's diamonds. Thanks for adding me to your group and I look forward to seeing some of your finds and learning new things.
