Thank you for all the input to my posting. I was hoping to take up prospecting (possibly dredging) after I retire. Supposedly, mining is creating a significant number of issues that harm streams and rivers. By time I retire probably only a shovel and one pan will be allowed to work in steams/rives. I've done some research on the internet and have yet to found any actual science to back up the harmful environmental claims being spouted to justify the current paranoia. If anyone has a link to an actual scientific article/paper I would very much like to read it.

There is none, their entire stand is filled with flawed science and words like "may, could, might" They have yet to provide any proof that any harm to environment occurs, not even one fish thats been harmed. They line the pockets of so many money hungry politicians that actual science takes a back seat. Hopefully with the litigation in Ca now, this is about to change.
