I am going to say no, the fastest water would be to the write where it is the deepest. The lighter sand is actually being kicked out from the faster moving water into the slower water and that is where it settles, it is called the helical water flow. here is a video of a lady explaining how the faster water cuts through the river bottom and where the Sands settled if I find one that explains it better I will let you know http://youtu.be/ZzwxQshIn1Q now I could be wrong to and I have no problem with being corrected, so if I am please let me know

the right side looked like a shadow but as I look at it it is deep there so yes you are right.
