  • Lawrence, I did a little research and found that indeed there are gold deposits on Unalaska, I am going to try to post a Google Earth screen shot of the known areas of gold on Unalaska...all of the Xs are places that gold has been found, all of these are "inactive" as of the time the data was complied, you will need to check out the place for "claims", "private property", and any that maybe "off limits" because of "Wilderness Areas", etc.

  • thats rugged country, as rugged as it gets. good luck with whatever you do, but try to avoid gettin into areas where surprise storms can get you snowed in, its gettin to be that time of year. if i was goin to alaska, id check out every single culvert i drove across, great sluices those culverts, and ive read that people have done well just doin that.
  • Lawrence,

Good Luck on your adventure, I don't own a crab boat, and you know that Dutch Harbor is on Unalaska Island and it is at the end of the Aleutian Island Chain, so unless they have gold deposits on Unalaska you would have to fly or go by boat to the mainland to find gold.

Here are some links for Dutch harbor and Unalaska's Convention and Visitors welcome page, there is a link for "Seeking Employment".

If you do get to prospect, I would not bring back any gold bearing dirt, to heavy, just pan the gold and bring the gold, or supercons back.

Good Luck and come back safe!
