  • There is some datolite that brings out the dreamer in me there. It's spectacular. also hard not to ooo and aaaah over that huge hunk of cooper. :=)

  • Josh, you're an education junky. lol. there is no cure, but there are many benefits. Go for it!

  • Yep, same place...my son is majoring in Mechanical engineering, couldn't persuade him to be a geologist :)
but when I visit him I always love to browse the mineral collection.

  • Is that the college with the seamans museum? that collection is awsome!

  • Josh

that is a killer specimen you have there...how lucky !

My son found this on the west side of the Keewenaw peninsula in Lake Superior, they are pretty soft crystals as I can scratch the surface with a knife no problem. thinking it is Calcite. I'll let him decide when he goes back to school at Michigan Tech in the fall, they have a bodacious mineral collection on campus and I'm sure one of his professors could do a positive id.

  • hard to tell, could be calcite or even datolite crystals

  • Where did you find it? That could help id it

  • Thanks for the info Josh..will definitely do my homework and see if I come across some, also found a datolite up in the Keweenaw peninsula but only half of it, it's in drawer somewhere, I'll post up a pic when I find it. also got some Native copper embedded in some porcupine mtn tailings from a copper mine...killer stuff for sure.

  • Thanks Josh

I can easily scratch the crystal part with the tip of my hunting knife...must be the calcite, is there anything worth doing with it ?
