  • Happy Birthday Morrow Sheryl are you finding us any GOLD to look at.

  • I am usually on the beach following the tide, metal detecting. next time you come through, let me know, would love to meet with you. I would not go to Ft kent just to prospect, my friend does ins business up there n we tag along to share driving, gas, food, n lodging expenses.  Where do you go to prospect? There is the swift river, wild ammorustic in nh.  i got to find me a good used enclosed trailer so i can get a move on to oregon n visit my grand kids. just babies, but at the rate i am getting any funds, they will be in college by the time i get there. I just dont have 3 grand to buy a new one. 3 grand will get me across.

well, there is a LOT of for sale property here in york. forclosures is what you should look into.  It is a really great place to live, my dad worked at ports shipyard for 30 years. I have been here all my life.

Do give me a hollar, any of you Maine prospectors, and we can go have a coffee, maybe a tailgate picknic at the beach before the tourist show up.   vickie

  • We actually made it all the way down to York for lunch, the property we looked at was almost in Ogunquoit (sp?)  We used the Urban Spoon App and found a place in York Beach Downtown area.  I walked on Long Sands for a short time and only drove by Long Sands.   We left our metal detector at home, maybe next time.  It's a beautiful area, it's just getting so busy in the summer.  We also have some great memories of that area with our kids when they were young.  Happy prospecting everyone!
  • Lived in Manchester, NH for two years
  • Wow seeing your post brings back some fond memories of

York, and especialy, Wells, where I met my second ex-wife. No realy, I loved it there, and her.

  • Vickie,  We are in Brunswick, My husband works in Portsmouth and most of his older relatives live in the  York Beach area.  I am amazed that you would drive that far to go panning, you are certainly committed to prospecting.  We're heading to Wells today to look at property, we need to move a little closer to my husband's job the daily commute is getting to be to much.
  • OH, just read down some. NO, I don't live near Ft. Kent. It is a 6 hour drive. I live in York, down by Kittery.

It was NOT that cold on the days it was NOT snowing. BUT once the sun began to go down it got real nippy fast. I was in by 5pm. I just dressed warm, brought a portable heater down with me one day but didn't need it. OR actually was to preoccupied with prospecting to want to bother to stop and warm my feet back up.

Took me hours to get the chill out of my bones, but a hot shower and coffee helped.

  • I do, and if you want a pannin party, just give me and my son a hollar. We would love to come keep you company and try our luck also. IT is SO hard to find anyplace that you can get near that someone else doesn't own. I have crawled under bridges and sucked out culverts in NewField and didn't find anything there. Good place to look though. IF any gold was in that river it would have dropped in the culvert.

Well, let me know if you want some company, my van is always packed with my gold gear to go.

    Vickie

  • I'm hoping to do a little prospecting (when it gets a little warmer!)  in the creek that runs on my property in eastern Aroostook, just outside of Oakfield.  Anyone do any prospecting in the eastern part of "the county"?
  • Jim,  Thanks for all the info.  We have been to the the quarries in the Paris area, it was a lot of fun, didn't find much, but had a great time.  We found nothing in the Swift River.  We also had the opportunity to go the Amethyst mine with Gary Howard on Deer Hill, he was really nice and showed us some of his beautiful finds.  I hope you have a great time on the Swift River and find Gold!  If we head up that way, I'll let you know.  Are you from Maine?
