  • Maybe it was a key cover like Dick B was saying, maybe it was from a stage coach or train robbery and the bandits picked French Gulch as the place to bust the box open and split the haul....very nice clean up job Howard.

  • Whatever it is ,don't know...but thats a Great Cleanup job Howie!!!

  • nice find howard  hope you find out what it is

  • My guess is it was on either a well marker or on one of the hose nozzle stands for hydraulic work. Cast iron is an odd material for a marker, most were brass plates so its on the industrial end of things rather than personal sorts of belongings.

  • Richard a good guess a definate maybe  its about two inchs in dia I thought maybe a pipe cover but what and where and how did it end up in French Gulch the only real activite in the area was mining !

  • OK, I'll take a wild guess. Do you remember the old railroad type locks that had a sliding cover over the key hole? This looks like it may have been a round cover with a tab that riveted to the lock face. The cover would have been stamped from steel and riveted to the lock. Not sure of the size from the picture, but if it's about a inch or so in diameter that might be what it is.

Nice find and I hope you can identify it.

  • Top Letters maybe NRA ?

Then Maybe a Belt Buckle !

  • looks like a botton with a makers mark mabie a test
  • I thoght maybe a belt buckle but the numbers don't lend them self to that. The small piece next to it came from the sme shovel full but might be a seprate issue.

  • I thought they werebrass too but this is cast Iron so I'm up for guesses as to what it is !
