  • Hi Fred. I'm in Louisville, KY. Not much in the way of gold in KY. As Bill mentions, I suspect there are a few areas where the glaciers pushed South of the present Ohio River or there might be outwash areas, but for the most part KY is all South of the glaciation line. I have read of some small gold found in Eastern KY, such as in Estill County, which is probably some old stuff from deteriated mountains. Most of us prospectors in KY head North to IN or OH for glacial gold, South to TN, NC, GA, AL for Eastern gold, or out West!

There are some gemstones in the Bluegrass State, but I'm not real familiar with what or where those can be found. Lots of fossils can be found.

Not blessed with gold in KY, just bourbon!! Keith
  • thanks bill for the info..if anyone else has any other ideas just et me know.. all the info i can send him would be helpfull!
  • I wouldn't spend too much effort on the gold thing inKY although I do suspect that there be some to be found in north eastern Boone County as this pretty close to the southern part of Ohio and Indiana where decent gold has been recovered. I'm not sure of the gems but have heard of some crystals found in the eastern part of the state. I do know a couple of KY'ins here they will chime in I'm sure
