I don't know any specific place to find gold in Durham County other than 2 "hot spots" from a N.C. geological map of gold in stream sediments, one being in the NW corner of Durham County around the city of Rougemont area, the second is east of Durham in the "triangle formed by state Hwy 98, Hwy 70 and the county line, the hot spot is right on the county line and into Wake County.
Here is a link to the map.
Most of the land in N.C. is private so be careful where you jump in a stream, areas with parking around Public accesses/easements such as boat landings and bridges are usually a safe bet, if you find an area at a bridge don't wonder to far up or downstream from the bridge as you may be going onto private property and off of the state's easement, in N.C. a lot of the rivers and streams are owned by the adjacent property owners.
