getten frustrated!

So most of you, have seen the gold i get on my trips, and im not complaing. I have read and researched as much as i can and i dig where im supposed to. I find real good color on the banks and even as high up as 30+ feet above the river, but i have never found anything but a speck or two in the river itself. Now it is possible that the gold is working itself much deeper than im digging but even when i find a good deposit on the bank there is lots of flypoop in the top layer thats my clue im looking for. Alittle deeper the gold gets better. I dont find more than a couple specks any place in the river and maybe thats my clue but i dont want to waste a day digging for china and finding squat! Then if the gold is down deeper than im digging id need a dredge and scuba gear and im in ca. By the amount of color i find on the bank and higher there has to be better gold down lower but maybe im wrong. Anybody else run it to this kind of issue?

  • You are right there was a volcanic flow that filled in the original river bed. Table mountian flow. The spot im at is one of the rare places that the river actually cut through the hardend lava. The majority of this river had to change coarse and cut the majority of its current direction adjacient to the old river bed. The early miners worked hundreds of feet above the river outside of the canyon. "ancient river of gold" there is good gold here my uncle met a fisherman who while fishing found a four ounce nugg in the river,he saw something shining and picked it up. Luck sob!
  • Thats part of the mystery and frustration! Im just below a set of falls currently, and the falls are pounding a quartz vein that crosses below it. On friday i found another quartz vein, up about 15' from my spot, lots of the same fines and flakes but i did find a clue as to why the gold is deposited so high and all in the top foot or two. I had a hunch it was a flood deposit from 96-97, i have found some other deposits with chunkier gold, along with the gold i found coins. All dating 1995 or earlier. At the higher spot i was cleaning the top of a massive rock that a bunch of material had accumulated with large cobbles and gravels and while classifying another 1995 coin popped up in the mix. So im figuring that this area is another flood deposit from 96-97. Before those years the water was consistantly low and at time drought levels. I think the falls scoured the bottom where over the low water years fine and flakes had built up when the floods came it blasted those golds evenly over the whole area im working. I just cant figure why the bigger pieces and deposits arent in the river its self or even the same type of deposits that im finding on the bank and above. Unless its down deeper. I have some pics of my spot on my page if you want to take a look. Im still new at this which is why im finding it difficult to rap my head around this conundrum. My sense says there must be bigger gold somewhere here everything ive learned tells me it should be there but im not finding it in the darn river.
