Thanks for chiming in Digger, but no one has heard from Randall in a long time that I know of. Anybody out there in contact with Randy or know what has happened to him?
Also don't worry if you keep getting denials, it just means that your next paperwork will go higher and even higher until you get all that you deserve. Also what you think you deserve may not be all that is legally allowed but you would be advised on that. I can't promise you anything, only a fool would guaranty you anything although I'm sure a lawyer would for money, but this will be your best chance if you have a little patience. ~desertratdan
First of all Randall, I would never accept a dime from any vet needing help. What will help you get started is to call this number and tell them you are in a crisis= 1-800-273-8255 and press 1 for veterans. You can also go on line to www.suicidepreventionlifeline.org. These are both VA programs and are part of the process to make the gov't realize that you have a real crisis on hand and you need help. Now understand that this is not a quick-fix type thing but it also is free and is supported by several groups. You need to have a VA advocate assigned to you and those are always available to vets. You may have to travel to another town or something to see them but your local VFW either has AmVets or knows of them. They will give you rides to the hospital. You do not need to be a member of the VFW to get rides and even small loans from them if you are down and out. I did that before I was a member so I speak from experience. An assigned advocate will take care of appointments, keep and read your records, counsel you on your next steps to take and will correspond to the VA or government in your behalf. They will write all letters and give you sound advice on steps to take. You do not need an expensive lawyer, in fact since they have these programs available then why should you when this was set up to keep all the lawsuits down. No One can or will deprive you if you feel you still need a lawyer but I'm sure you will not need one if you get an advocate. If at any time you don't feel you are being represented properly, you can ask to see a different one, it's that easy. Now, the crisis intervention people will ask you to see a psychologist. Do not be alarmed by this, you are not crazy, just hurt. I ended up getting 50% of my disability from my shrink, for PTSD. I went the route I'm describing to you and I went from 20% to 100% in less than 6 months! There are options to help you Randall, but absolutely none if you just give up. It will take time but be assured it will all be in a forward direction. Even if you get a denial in the mail (which did happen to me more than once) your advocate will also get a copy and you must take the step of going to the advocate and contesting the denial with your copy. They can't second guess your actions and I think it's probably against the law anyway. You have to sign all paperwork that goes out showing you approve of it. There is always hope my friend, always some way to get a hand up if you try but, funerals are forever and I'd rather be the thorn in somebodies butt than to give up! You have friends so hang in there, help is coming!
Randy, I don't know if Bill Gordon and Associates, or Bender and Bender handle these types of issues, but they DO work with Social Security cases, you may give them a call, and find out. They should be listed in your local Yellow Page directory. If they can't help you, maybe they can give you to someone that can, hang in there, my friend.
