Anyone out there that would like a great place to pan, dredge, highbank, or just hike around the old township of Langdon. We will be at our claim this weekend on Cow Creek. We have 140 acre placer claim. An old 1889 town called Langdon is in the middle of the claim and still has one building still standing (well, almost still standing) there are three old bottle dumps from the late 1800's to about 1930 when the town closed for good.Anyone who would like to come up and spend the day please email me for directions. There are also 4 smaller creeks that dump into Cow Creek in our claim. Skull Creek, Jack Rabbit, No-Name, and Snake Creek. We have 12 camping sites with four drives off the road into the claim, (one you have to have a 4 wheel drive to get out of 50% grade climb out) and across Cow Creek Road is a RV park with rest room.Come and join us for some fun.
I tried the link in your post but it didn't work. I sent you a note via the "friend request" with my email address. (I don't want to post it here). Talk to you soon and thanks again. David
Hi David,
Yes camping and mining is OK with me. If you go up Cow Creek please call me and I will guide you in. It's real easy when you see the sign Skull Creek your there, there are three drives into the creek side of the claim. Our claim covers both sides of Cow Creek Road and both sides of the RR tracks. Email me direct at Shorty
Hi Shorty. I hope that you got the challenges worked out with the claim jumpers! I just got back from the Rogue and Cow Creek. Did "ok" on the Rogue, not really anything to write home about but had a great time. Not much camping space in the area though so after about 10 days I headed up to cow creek hoping to meet up with you and check out the claim. Got there and discovered that I had left the directions at home!!! Drove all up and down Cow Crk rd a few times hoping to recognize the name of your claim or see you out there but every one I asked "wasn't" you!!! Anyway, spent about a week at the free sites on cow crk and then a day at lawson bar.
I am getting ready to head back out and was wondering if your offer of camping /mining is still open???
It will probably be about a week before I can talk my wife into letting me slip away again after being gone almost 3 weeks last time but I got enough color to really get the itch a-goin'.
Let me know when you can and, again, I sure hope you straightened out that jerk trying to jump your claim. David
Hi Shorty, Wow, I sure hope that you can get the claimjumpers handled quickly. Can't believe how rude some folks are. Fortunately the vast majority of the miners that I have met in the 3 years that I have mined have been high quality, trustworthy folks. Anyway, thank you again. I will definitely see you there. Thanks for the good wishes for the Rogue, I have been hearing about some decent gold coming up so we will see..
Hi David, I will be going back to the claim next week end. I heard some one has pulled down my claim signs and posted theirs over it. I have 140 acres and they claimed 80 acres right in the middle. I will not be able to get up there until Saturday the 24th. though. But once I find out whats going on I will let you know, you are more than welcome to come up and camp, highbank, dredge, pan and what ever. There are 9 very nice camping spots on the claim, and some very nice swimming holes. Also the old township of Langdon is right in the middle of the claim. If you look on a map you can see the town of Langdon is listed on the maps. There is still one old building (not standing straight) but its still there, metal detecting is fantastic, three old bottle dumps, and lots of hiking around the bush.
Good luck on the Rouge.
Hi Shorty, I just checked in and saw that you were on your claim "last" weekend!!! Timing is everything, I am heading down to S. Oregon "This Weekend" for a few weeks of mining / dredging time. I think that I am going to try the Rogue as I have been hearing good things from the new 49ers about the gold they are finding. Any chance that you will be heading back to your claim soon? If so, I would sure like to accept your exceptionally generous and kind offer and visit with you a bit too. Thanks, David
Please do, just let me know when you might have time to go. I can and will go anyday. I am a Truck Freight Broker and work for myself so I can go anytime. I don't need an excuess to go panning.
I'm gonna keep watching your blog, Shorty. I will be headed up that way sometime in Aug. and if you are at your claim then, I will at least stop in to say hi.
I would love to see any of our group here come up. We have all the tools needed for about 40 people. I use to own a mining supply store and I have alot of items left. I have all the pans, classifiers (all sizes), two Gold Gennies, three Gold Miner, and 8 Blue Bowls. Plus all the extra equipment anyone might need.
