Thought I'd post a picture of my homemade water table. I saw this on Youtube, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVr_TrBjsBsThis is actually the result of 2 attempts. The first time, I didn't waterproof the Melamine shelving so it warped. A shame because until then "it worked very well for me". My rebuild used a green plastic cutting board. The table could have been used without the Hobbico Mat, but I went with the mat anyway. A couple of recommendation over the video that I did was to run the vial and lid against a disc sander to open up the lid as opposed to drilling it. You'll get a nicer opening. Also, drill the inside diameter of the vial the whole way thru and ream out the hole to the outside diameter of the lid but only part way through. By doing this, flour gold can't get caught on the shoulders of the lid opening on the way into the vial.

Nice build. You did a great job. I think you will really like it. A lot of things have changed since that video but I still like the Melamine board as it is very flat and smooth but you really have to waterproof it well and especially the hole that goes down to the gold bottle. That is it's main weak point. I spray Helmsman's spar varnish down the hole to seal the wood. But you won't have to worry with the cutting board. I will give your recommendation on the gold bottle a try on my next one and probably the cutting board as well.
