  • Well said, Kchacha. That is what I do on my 5" too. Man can those rock hit hard. Have to wear gloves to keep hands from being cut but it allows me to control the flow and what size material goes into hose. The cigar shaped rocks are the worst. Small but long and will clog a hose up in a heart beat. Once I learned to properly run that nozzle, I have very few clogs if any now days.

  • O.K thanks for the info.I will keep that in mind. I never dredged before and thats why I posted here to get feedback from everyone. Thanks again.

  • Why do you want to cut your intake in half or more?  Just don't "plunge" your nozzle into the material, but manage the nozzle intake as you dredge.  Even a single bar suddenly cuts your dredge size in half.  The sluicebox should have a grizzly/classifyer in it.  No need to do it at the nozzle end and restrict the size of material you are uptaking.  If your dredging technique is prone to plug-ups, get a hand down there where the material is coming into the nozzle and manage that intake!  You'll increase your production!

  • I have made them before and used 1 bar on a 3".  I bent mine over a pipe and is round on end. Allows you to get in a little tighter.  1 bar on a 3" will allow 1.5 " material through. Also, making the end so it can be taken off is a good idea too. All creeks are different so being flexible is key. You can take your tapered design and make a smaller nozzle for crevassing. Something I have always wanted to do on my 5".

  • OK that's what I was thinking I will remove 1 bar on each side should help with that issue just was not sure. If that don't work then take 1 bar out on top and bottom. That way I have a total of 4 bars all together is what I was planning on doing but got carried away lol.

  • Nice looking but... to restricted. You'll see what I mean when ya try it out unless you want sand. You want to remove some over burden as you process or you will find yourself using a shovel to remove it. Then there is that chance of missing a pay streak.

  • great job rich hope it works out
