Wider yes... deeper no! I am on bedrock already. All I could do from here is spead out. You can't see it from this shot, but the hole actually goes back about 10 feet. It took a lot of digging buckets to get this far. Unfortunately, I just plum ran out of time on my vacation to go anymore. I did have a lot of fun taking it this far. The spot where the shovel handle is sticking out of was a small ravine formation in the rock that went down about three feet. This is all solid rock with quite a few cracks to dig out. I absolutely love sniping! Picking the flakes right off the bedrock is really something you just have to experience for yourself.
Thank you for sharing your photos - inspiring! It's been a couple of years since my last trip to northern California's gold country. Prospecting has become my brother's hobby since his retirement and I have tagged along on his prospecting trips. However, his latest interest is gold detecting in the Mohave desert area. Keep up the good work!
Last week in August, temps were in the triple digits...Unfortunately, I was so severly sunburned from a few days prior that I didn't really want to move, much less dig holes. I had an incredible trip regardless. This year, I will have the entire summer to move ground. If you decide to skip over to the west side, stop on by. I'll save you a few flakes.
Sorry glenn, that spot is mine! But there is plenty of space and more rocks to turn if you want to give it a go. Here's a hint...its not in Oklahoma. LOL back at ya! By the way, my profile pic. is from about 10 minutes of sniping when I first hit the bedrock.
Ya, unfortunately I had to leave to go back to work. I intend to continue the dig this summer with more time to expand the operation. The hole will undoubtedly be filled in, but I know where I left off.

Now those are the kind of Glory Holes that I like to see Riverdigger. from the picture,
it looks like you could go a lot deeper and wider.....bound to be more yellow hiding there.
Gold Nuggets
Looks like some good bedrock, it's not smooth and looks like there's some nice cracks!!
I'd like to get in there with my mask and get Me some two finger specials!!!
