  • The small silver shiny bits are called osmiridium which is a Platinoid group element (PGM), it is a combination of Osmium and Iridium, I do not know if I pronounced that all correctly. They used to mine it in the old days here in Tasmania and use it on the tips of Felt pens as they would never wear out. They say if you get a piece and put it on an anvil and hit it with a hammer it will go into the anvil as it is so hard. Kind regards David
