Honda GXH50 with Koshin SEH-40H pump

My new used pump....finally got one! Pump can use a good cleaning inside and I can't get those pipe fittings off.

  • I agree Ken, they are both pipe threads. Looks to me like there is Teflon tape on the pump threads, if so, it shouldn't be to hard to take them off, put a pipe wrench on them, and tap the handle with a hammer while keeping pressure on it.

  • in all the years and pumps i have seen they havent  never used  different threads on a pumpshawn when you get them off go to a pvc typy of fitting and use teflon tape on the threads

     alumin  will oxides in any type of water whitch makes it real hard to remove reg steel fittings fromif heated it will losen up most fittings from the alomin fittingsby tapping on the fittings with a hammer it should help break up the oxidation

  • Shawn I am with Zzzz and Orrin. Hose threads are straight threads like a bolt they require a gasket to seal. Pipe threads are tapered from the outside diameter of the pipe approximately 1/16 of a inch . The pipe fittings are tapered the opposite way, they use that taper to seal. The Teflon tape or pip dope used with pipe threads is actually used as a lubricant to assist the threads to seal. The threads are close in size and a pipe thread will thread on to a hose thread until it hits the smaller part of the taper.this is where the threads will be damaged.there are people in this world that will go get a bigger wrench and keep tightening to stop them from leaking after they put a whole roll of Teflon tape on.when they do that the threads get damaged sometimes beyond reuse. It could also be siezed up do to the reaction between steel and aluminum. Usually brass is used as pump fittings due to the metalurgy compision of it. Brass has lead in it, the lead acts similarly to antisieze. You may get the pipes fittings off but you still might need to replace the flanges.  They do make pipe flanges if you plan on using fittings again.  When you put flanges back on use a little antisieze on the bolts so you can get them back out in the future if you need to. I hope this helps you out. I would take a shot at the vice with a little heat. See what happens.

  • Shawn the Flange bolts on, you should be able to order an new flange as a spare part.  Check these folks out: https://www.koshinamerica.com/shop.asp  I would unbolt the flange and put it in a vise and see what happens

  • It looks like they forced pipe threads over hose threads... taking it apart will most likely destroy the threads of the aluminum. just my 2 cents.

  • shawn try tapping on the pipes with a hammer  to help free them up also if you have access to a torch you can heat the fittings up to expand them this should help a lot  becarefut not to over heat the pump fittings

  • Bolt it down to something and get urself a big ol pipe wrench maybe even a cheater bar and some wd-40
